Toronto Star Launches Unique Collector’s Magazine and Photo Exhibit for TIFF’s 50th Anniversary
As the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) prepares for its milestone 50th edition, the Toronto Star is marking the occasion with a comprehensive multi-platform tribute. The newspaper is releasing an exclusive collector’s magazine, in collaboration with Jaguar, offering a rich selection of interviews, memories, and iconic images that trace the festival’s evolution and global impact.
Inside the Special Edition Magazine
Titled City of Stars: 50 Years of Movie Magic at TIFF, this 68-page collector’s edition features:
- The Oral History of TIFF – A four-part exploration by Peter Howell tracing the Festival’s journey from 1976 to international renown, with insights from industry luminaries like David Cronenberg and Guillermo del Toro.
- TIFF Timeline – Year-by-year highlights of standout moments, major events, and star appearances.
- Celeb Corner – Candid behind-the-scenes stories featuring Jennifer Lopez, Timothée Chalamet, and other A-list stars.
- Tales from the A-List – Renowned photographer George Pimentel shares the narratives behind his most memorable TIFF portraits.
- TIFF 50 – Film critic Adam Nayman selects a defining movie from each year of the festival.
- The Heart of the Fest – Veteran volunteers recount the passion and excitement that has kept them coming back for decades.
Laura deCarufel, the Star’s Director of Lifestyle and Culture Content, described the magazine as both a collector’s item and a tribute to the film community’s creativity and energy. The magazine is designed to appeal to film lovers and collectors, offering an exclusive window into TIFF’s vibrant history.
Limited Distribution and Collector Appeal
Only 65,000 copies are being produced, with targeted delivery to select subscribers and limited public availability at the TIFF Lightbox and key festival events. Presented by Jaguar, the publication is expected to become a sought-after keepsake for festival goers and cinema enthusiasts.
Iconic TIFF Photo Exhibit
In partnership with celebrity photographer George Pimentel and Ink Entertainment, the Star is also hosting the George Pimentel: Best of TIFF Photo Exhibit. This gallery features 50 of Pimentel's most striking photographs from the festival’s history, showcasing red-carpet glamour and rare behind-the-scenes glimpses. The exhibit will be open to the public from September 4–14 at Portland Square, Toronto, offering movie fans the chance to purchase limited edition prints through the Star Store.
Special Launch Events
The special edition magazine launch and photo exhibit will both include exclusive VIP previews and parties, highlighted by Jaguar’s presenting sponsorship. These celebrations bring together contributors, sponsors, and partners such as Kerastase, Reitmans, Ruffino, and Peroni, reflecting the festival’s collaborative spirit.
